MARCH 8, 2013: INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

I decided to put together a mini collage of interesting pictures today to join in as the world Unites to keep there promise to take action to end violence against women.
Statistics Worldwide today is shocking. According to the UN:
  • Up to 50% of sexual assaults are committed against girls under the age of 16.
  • Globally, 603 million women live in countries where domestic violence is not yet considered a crime.
  • Up to 70% of women in the world report having experienced physical and/or sexual violence at some point in their lifetime.
  • Over 60 million girls worldwide are child brides, married before the age of 18…

It’s a call to action from governments, civil society, women’s organizations, men, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing this global pandemic. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rightly said "There is one universal truth, applicable to all countries, cultures and communities: violence against women is never acceptable, never excusable, never tolerable." A PROMISE IS A PROMISE.

GET RICH OR DIE MARRIED!

In the wake of reports on  House of Reps approval of life imprisonment for any persons convicted of rape, yesterday Tuesday March 5th 2012. I am reminded of many women who are already mentally imprisoned seemingly living in ivory towers with lofty privileges but deep down are worn out from having to force a smile complete with hair and makeup while their tired feet bleed from walking on eggshells in their matrimonial home. While it may sound easy to say report your spouse, turn him in and walk away from an abusive relationship which may be psychological or physical with all forms of hitting beating, slapping, including rape (yes, a woman who is married can be raped by her husband). But in a society as difficult as ours where a woman may need to work ten times as hard to be taken half as seriously it may seem like a better option to just get married to whoever, stay married and oh! Yes! if the need be die dia! Having said that I won’t forget to add that deep within us all lies what it takes to succeed be rich and with the right dose of self esteem, God help us all, we can have the dignity to die trying.(to be continued...)

FOLLOW THE LEATHER! Cat woman was on to something...

There is something absolutely edgy, daring and hot about leather and that’s why it’s a trend to watch out for in 2013. I love Leather pieces because they are timeless and never go out of fashion. With the right combination you can rock your leather any day or night. I invested in some brown leather pants which I wore to an event and the complements haven’t stopped rolling in. Leather strikes the right fashion chords, not just in comic books but even on the red carpet and on regal dinner outfits. Kim K was also caught donning a leather piece in Darey Art-Alade’s love like a movie event (Kai! I’m still not over the rumours that she was paid a reported $500,000). You too can do the leather, be inspired by pictures of some leather outfits (forgive me but I couldn't resist  sneaking my picture in the mix! *wink *wink). Believe me when I say leather is hot and its not the weather.
It may interest you to know the red Leather Jacket on Alicia pictured above was made by a Nigerian designer, Tsemaye Binitie.  For those skeptical about the heat and leather wearing in Nigeria, a little leather here and there would do the trick. Despite the ban of "Okada's" in Lagos Nigeria dare to bring your biker chick swag on. Diva's what do you think?

How do i begin to plead with you for going on the low low lately? I was trying to wrap my hand around keeping my blog running despite my spontaneous schedule. Yours truly is back to the matter and am all yours for delivering some beauty tricks from that "mirror-on-the-wall" moment down to the red carpet. Here is my take on Iyanya vs Desire Album lunch.I had fun working on Sharon Ojon's make up. Sharon was on the red carpet conducting interviews for the Glameye Watch Tv show brought to you by Naij.
